What Causes Diabetes – Things you should know

There are many ways by which one can develop diabetes. But first, you need to know that there are three types of diabetes. 1st is pre-diabetes, 2nd is type 2 diabetes and 3rd is type 1 diabetes. Many people who have pre-diabetes are unaware of it because little symptoms are shown by a pre-d

iabetes patient

According to the research, there are more than 35 million people in the just United States who have diabetes. Statistically, 1 out of 5 people don’t even know that they have diabetes

Of course, age factor matters but diabetes can occur at any age. Pre-diabetes will occur when blood sugar level will become higher than normal but it is not high enough to be considered as type 2 diabetes.

All types of diabetes will be caused by the high amount of sugar level in the body and sugar level will be height because of 3 factors which are

  • The pancreas is not making insulin
  • The pancreas is not making enough insulin
  • The body is not responding to insulin

What is Insulin

Sugar in our body comes from the food we eat. Moving the sugar into the bloodstream requires insulin which is produced by a gland known as the pancreas located at the back of the stomach. Insulin allows sugar to enter the cell and in this way, it lowers the sugar content in the blood.

Causes of Prediabetes

A cause of pre-diabetes is still unknown but it is believed that family history and genetics play an important role in casing pre-diabetes. Moreover, being overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle with a lot of belly fat can contribute to pre-diabetes.

Pre-diabetes will occur when the pancreas is not making enough insulin or it may occur if cells become resistant to insulin. In this condition, cells may not allow as much sugar to come in. So, in this way cells will be deprived of sugar and the bloodstream will be full of sugar.

Causes of Type 1 & Types 2 Diabetes

People with type-1 diabetes have pancreas which no longer makes insulin. On the other hand, a Type 2 diabetes patient has a pancreas that makes little insulin but such insulin is not recognized by the body.

These two types are alarming but if we compare them both type 2 diabetes is less severe than type 1 diabetes.

Factors that can cause diabetes

The exact factor that can cause diabetes will be unknown to you but many factors contribute to developing diabetes. The following are the risk factor that can cause diabetes.

Being overweight is the most prominent cause of diabetes because more fat around the tissue and muscles especially around the waist makes the cell resistant to insulin. So, no matter if insulin is being produced or not cells will not recognize the insulin.

High blood pressure

Having blood pressure over 140/90 can raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Family history

Genes are responsible for making your whole body so, if your parents have diabetes this gene can be transferred to you. So, you can also develop diabetes.

Aging can increase the risk of diabetes because your body becomes weak and you lose muscle mass. Eventually gaining weight as you age. In recent times type 2 diabetes is seen more in children, adolescents, and younger adults.

Living a sedentary lifestyle

Living an inactive life can also cause insulin resistance. Physical activities help you to be fit and in shape. When you do a physical activity you use glucose as energy this makes room in the cell to grab more insulin.

Other factors which can contribute to Diabetes are Gestational diabetes, Polycystic ovary syndrome, Stress, Viral or bacterial infection, Medicines, Chemical toxins within the food, High-fat and carbohydrate diet, High alcohol and tobacco intake, Low level of good cholesterol, Glucagonoma, and so on.
